Hooray for National Children’s Oral Health!!!
Did you know that February is not just about hearts and Valentine’s Day? It is also National Children’s Dental Health Month! According to the National Children’s Oral Health Foundation, Pediatric dental disease, also known as childhood tooth decay, is the #1 chronic childhood illness in America ("Facts About Tooth Decay", 2016). They also state that children with poor oral health are 3 times more likely to miss school as a result of dental pain ("Facts About Tooth Decay", 2016).
Healthy, happy smiles begin with the proper education of parents and families all over the world. Children’s Dental health education is extremely important because the habits that are created at a young age can follow our children around for their entire life. Many parents do not know that in order to prevent dental problems, it is recommended by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry for your child to see a pediatric dentist when the first tooth appears or no later than his/her first birthday ("Frequently Asked Questions", 2017). It is also recommended that your child see a pediatric dentist every six months to prevent cavities and other oral health issues ("Frequently Asked Questions", 2017). From basic education and maintenance to problem detection, every visit to the dental office counts. This will also enable your child to create a relationship with the dentist, establishing a dental home, which can help with dental anxiety and fear later in life.
Choosing a dental home for your child can be overwhelming, but Sunshine Pediatric Dentistry specializes in making the experience as enjoyable as possible for your little one. With extra schooling and special training, our Pediatric Dentist Dr. Bae, knows just what to say to help keep your little one calm during routine visits and treatment procedures.
