Find out what to expect when your child comes into our office for their first visit.first visit

Your child’s first tooth just came in. What an exciting time! Of course, it’s important that your little one starts visiting our Yorba Linda, CA, pediatric dentist, Dr. Jaclyn Bae, who can ensure that they have a smooth, comfortable first visit. Find out what to expect when your little one steps foot inside our office:

When should my child start seeing the dentist?

This is a question we hear quite a bit. Most people don’t want to start bringing in their child too early but they also want to start them as early as possible so that they are comfortable coming to the dentist as they get older. Your little one should come in either by their first birthday or when teeth start to erupt, whichever scenario happens first.

Why does my child need to visit the dentist so young?

Dental care is so important even from an early age. Even before teeth have erupted, you should be cleaning their gums gently with a damp cloth after feedings to remove any bacteria that may form. Once teeth erupt, it’s the perfect time to come in so that our Yorba Linda children’s dentist can show you how to care for your little one’s teeth and gums.

What will happen during the first visit?

This visit is really about getting to know your child and to make sure they are comfortable. By providing easy, comfortable visits in the beginning we hope to make it easier to get your child to the dentist in the future. We will carefully and quickly examine your child’s teeth and gums to check for decay and other issues. We may also need to gently clean the teeth if we find plaque or tartar buildup.

There are also some habits such as thumb sucking that can affect the alignment of your child’s teeth. These are habits we can address during the visit to prevent problems in the future. As your child gets older there are other preventive options available to them such as dental sealants and fluoride treatment that can keep teeth healthy and free from decay.

Sunshine Pediatric Dentistry in Yorba Linda, CA, is dedicated to making your child’s dental visits easier. Seeing the dentist shouldn’t be stressful; we can help make that possible.
