What is a Pediatric Dentist?
A Pediatric Dentist or Pedodontist is a dentist who has undergone at least two years of additional training to better equip them to understand the specific needs of children of all ages, teenagers and individuals with special needs. Children are not just little adults so they cannot be treated like little adults. A pediatric dentist understands that each child is unique and needs to be treated in a manner that is age and developmental stage appropriate. We are specially trained to recognize and treat concerns and issues that pertain to children, teens and individuals with special needs such as oral manifestations of systemic disease like diabetes, asthma, ADHD, Down's Syndrome etc. They are also specially equipped to deal with tailoring dental visits and treament to children with behavioral challenges, sensory issues and anxiety.
